Up North

My parents rented a 9-bedroom house in Petoskey for a week for all of us siblings and family.  We had 8 adults and 7 children--8 and under.  It was a lot of fun--we had great weather, and the house was right on the water.  We had access to a beach, playgrounds, bike trails, tennis courts, and hiking trails.
The house was an old boarding house built in the 1800s.  It had a lot of character, and the kids loved playing hide-and-go-seek.  We had plenty of room to spread out, and even had an extra bedroom.

Playing on the beach near the house.

We rented paddle boards and kayaks one day.

Cousins!

Time for popcorn!

We all went to Mackinac Island one day, and biked around the island.  Paul made it the 8 miles on his own bike!

Bike break for some rock climbing.

His own store on the island!

Another bike break to play in the water and search for stones

One day we went to Torch Lake.  Rachel and Jonathan biked half-way there, and we picked them up.

Iowa trip

The boys and I went to Iowa for a long weekend in June.  Rachel and Bella and Bo were also there, since they were homeless for the month of June, in between selling and buying their houses.  It was My Waterloo Days, so we went to a parade, watched the hot air balloons go up, and went to the opening of the new John Deere museum.

Strawberries

We had a bumper crop of strawberries this year.  The grand total was 120 quarts!  I made jam, bread, pie, salad, lemonade, even strawberry s'mores.

End of school

Paul's last day of school ended with a road rally.  He chose to bring his scooter.  They decorated and washed their bikes or scooters, and got to ride around in a circle.  Paul was a little disappointed there wasn't a race!

Good-bye to 1st and 2nd grade!  Next year:  new teacher and new room.
